Underappreciated feature: washboard self-cleaning

So I’ve been testing out the Z60 for a couple of weeks now as part of the #GetYourZ60 campaign, and I recently got a notification to clean the washboard base for the first time. On the P10 I was using before this, I had to manually remove the washboard and then scrub it in my sink, and also scrub the panel beneath the removable washboard. It wasn’t difficult, but it did add some extra manual maintenance to an otherwise mostly automated experience.

I knew that the washboard design on the Z60 was different from when I set it up and saw that it didn’t have that removable piece. But I still assumed that there would be some manual action needed on my part when it came time to clean the washboard. So I was pleasantly surprised when I went to the dock settings in the Mova app and saw that on the Z60, washboard self-cleaning was fully automated.

At the same time, I was a little skeptical — could it really get the washboard clean enough by itself, without any human intervention? I didn’t know what to expect.

As you can see in the pictures attached below, it did a pretty good job! While the washboard isn’t perfectly spotless, the self-cleaning process got rid of most of the major debris that I can imagine might get in the way of keeping the mop roller clean. I’ll probably still take a brush or a paper towel to it once in a while when I really want to get it looking like new, but the self-cleaning should be more than enough for the most part.

I think that this is a really great and under appreciated feature. The entire purpose of robot vacuums is to make our lives easier and automate a time-consuming task that most people don’t enjoy. Of course, there is still some manual intervention needed, like emptying the dust bag or refilling the clean water. But the washboard self-cleaning feature eliminates what was probably the most time-consuming type of manual maintenance that was still necessary for robot vacuums, so props to Mova for this.
