Auto Car Wash vs. Handwashing: How I’ve Come to See the MOVA Z60
I wanted the Z60 to be *perfect*, and through that lens, finding any fault with the Z60 came easy. But, I've reframed my view.
The best analogy I can think of for the MOVA Z60 is the difference between an automatic car wash versus handwashing your car. The auto wash is convenient, gets you a “good‑enough” clean, and sends you on your way. Handwashing, on the other hand, gets into most nooks and crannies and leaves you with that satisfying “job well done” feeling. And if you want perfection, you’d hire a professional detailer.
The MOVA Z60 is the automatic car wash of home cleaning except in this case, it actually does a very good job. Sure, you could clean everything yourself, or you could pay a professional maid service, but the Z60 handles the day‑to‑day vacuuming and mopping reliably and consistently.
It's not fair to want the Z60 to be perfect. I’ve lived in this house for 14 years; the Z60 has been navigating it for only a couple of weeks. It’s smart, but it’s still a mechanical robot learning a complex environment. I do expect it to improve as it maps and re‑maps the space.
The other part is managing my own expectations with the settings. If I want a quiet vacuum, I have to accept lower suction—there’s a reason my upright doesn’t have a “quiet mode.” If I want the best mopping performance, I need to use the highest heat setting and more water. These are all reasonable trade‑offs that I understand and am willing to compromise on.
One early screenshot from my testing sums it up well:
936.5 sq ft vacuumed and mopped in 121 minutes on Intensive Mode, after which it returned to base to recharge. While it likely wouldn't have taken me 2 hrs, that's still a huge deposit into my personal time bank. The Z60 also returned to spot clean areas it felt were dirty. At first, I thought the Z60 was lost but it dawned on me what it was doing.
The Z60 may not replace a deep clean, just like an auto wash won’t replace a full detail—but for everyday maintenance, it’s doing exactly what I hoped it would.
