Frustration #2: UltraTrim 2.0 🔪

One feature I've seen a lot of frustrations about is UltraTrim 2.0. The idea behind UltraTrim 2.0 is fantastic. It lowers the cutting deck and shifts it to the side when trimming edges, helping the mower reach grass that would normally be left behind for a cleaner looking edge.

❌ The problem is that UltraTrim 2.0 currently cuts at a fixed height of 1.2" (3 cm), and that height cannot be adjusted.

For many lawns in the United States (and plenty of other parts of the world), that's simply too short. Most cool season grasses are healthiest when maintained closer to 2.5-4 inches (6-10 cm), so forcing the mower down to 1.2" can scalp the lawn or leave the edges looking brown and stressed.

From what I've learned, Mova cannot make this height adjustable right now because of safety regulations in the US and EU. Since the mower physically lowers the cutting deck AND shifts it to the side during UltraTrim, changing that behavior would likely require regulatory approval rather than just a simple software update. Notice in the image how low to the ground that cutting deck gets to prevent injury to hands and feet!

⚙️ For now, my recommendation is to leave UltraTrim 2.0 turned OFF unless your lawn is intentionally maintained at a very low height.

I really hope Mova is able to find a solution in the future. I think UltraTrim 2.0 has a ton of potential, but it needs a lot more flexibility.

Thanks for your genuine feedback as a long-time user! We have also noticed this issue. Safety regulations require that human fingers cannot reach the blades during normal operation, which means there must be sufficient clearance between the blades and the housing, or the cutting deck guard needs to sit very close to the ground. When the deck shifts outward for edge trimming, it gets too near the housing, so the guard has to be lowered to a minimal ground clearance to comply with standards. On the current design, the cutting disc and its guard rise and fall as a single unit, leaving no room to adjust the trimming height without violating safety requirements. We will carefully log your suggestion and forward it to our R&D team for evaluation as a reference for future product iterations.

I just got my Mova mower last week and spent all day yesterday setting it up, and I noticed the same problem. It scalped my lawn along one edge between my property and my neighbors where there is no fence, and I was disappointed to see that the height cannot be changed. I have a St. Augustine lawn, which doesn't tolerate short cutting very well. While I see the value of the feature, since I can't change the height, I turned it off.
