Mapping won’t complete in my living room – too much furniture?

Hey guys,
I’m running into a mapping issue and wondering if this is user error or just my layout.
My living room has already been partially mapped, but when I try to start a fresh mapping run, the robot doesn’t seem to complete the entire room. It stops early or doesn’t fully capture all boundaries.
I’m wondering:
• Does having a lot of furniture affect mapping accuracy?
• Do I need to temporarily remove smaller objects (chairs, stools, ottomans, etc.) during the initial mapping?
• Should the floor be as clear as possible for the first full map?
• After mapping is complete, can I put everything back and expect normal cleaning coverage?
For context, I have:
– A coffee table with chairs around it
– Sofas
– Some smaller movable items
– Table legs and furniture legs fairly close together
There is still plenty of open floor space, but I’m not sure if the robot is getting confused by navigation complexity.
Would appreciate guidance from anyone who has optimized mapping in a similar layout.
Thanks!

I have definitely found it best to have good lighting, open doors and a “decluttered” space on doing an initial quick map. I wouldn’t worry about moving large furniture items, but stuff like cords or small boxes should definitely be put up to try and maximize the robots ability to understand your space. After the initial mapping, you should feel free to put everything back and expect a somewhat “normal” clean. I think you are always going to experience a better clean with less stuff in the way but it shouldn’t prevent the robot from working entirely as long as it has a path and height clearance's. You may need to add low lying areas or passable thresholds AFTER the initial mapping.

Should I move away the chairs around the table

If your chair legs are to small for the robot to go through I would put the over the table on occasion to get deep cleaning. Mine are fairly wide and have not had a problem but since I have two dogs I do put them up on occasion as dust settles in areas the vacuum can’t reach.

Shouldn’t need to move them for the mapping, but I agree with during cleaning to put them up sometimes just because they may not get cleaned around super well if the robot can’t fit through them.

Hi there,

Having a lot of furniture may affect the robot’s cleaning efficiency and speed, but it won’t affect the accuracy of the mapping.

For the initial mapping, we recommend clearing away small items on the floor (such as books, toys, shoes, cables, etc.) so the robot can complete the map more quickly and thoroughly. However, you do not need to remove furniture like tables, chairs, or stools.

If the initial map isn’t fully complete, that’s perfectly fine — the robot will continue to automatically update and improve the map during regular cleaning runs.

After the map is created, the robot will still detect and avoid furniture during cleaning, so you don’t need to worry about putting everything back in place.
