It's Giving Steve Urkel

The Z60 almost literally said, "I don't have to take this, I'm going home!"

This weekend I thought it would be interesting to put the Z60 to the test with a flour fiasco. Say you were baking and accidentally dropped an entire cup of flour on the floor—how well would the vacuum handle the teeny tiny flour particles? It handles my long hair like a champ, so I thought it was a no brainer. Boy was I wrong!

I dumped a cup of flour out onto the kitchen floor. Immediately, I wondered if it was a bad idea but it was too late for that. I called out, "Hey Mova, clean the kitchen!" and off it went. Things started out normal, it went along the outside edges and then went in towards the middle. The edge brush did start flinging bits of flour around, but I figured it would pick it all up as it went. When it was only touching the outside of the pile, it did quite well at picking up the powder. The robot eventually went through the middle of the pile a couple of times, which not only spread the flour out even more, but also seemed to confuse it. It then stopped going in it's normal back and forth pattern and started spinning around more frequently, jolting to and fro. All of a sudden it said, "cleaning task completed, returning to the dock to charge," but there was still flour everywhere! As you can see in the photos, there was quite a mess and it tracked flour out onto the carpet.

I swept up most of the remaining flour and found it had tackled nearly a half cup of it, which was more than it seemed. The floor still had a matte white layer so we sent it out again to see if it would be able to finish up. This time it did better, but there were still some obvious misses; a small line just under the oven that it couldn't reach but mainly the carpet. (Yes, we did have it set to vacuum the hallway too!)

We didn't make it try a 3rd time. We broke out the regular upright vacuum which sucked up the remnants in a single pass.

For maintenance cleaning, the Z60 is phenomenal and we're extremely happy with its performance. For major life messes, might want to keep your Ole Faithful stowed in the closet 🙂
