Self Empty P10 Ultra Pro

Just got our P10 Ultr Pro. Did our first 2 cleanings today. Mind you we do have a Labrador. Upon exam, we found the st self emptying did not work for the vacuum. Has this been any issue for anyone else when gift getting? Any tips? Tricks? The container was pretty full of hair and I had to manually empty it.
